It’s no secret. You would be hard-pressed to find a single robot on this site that gives two shits about anything Twilight – other than we think it is single-handedly detroying the vampire genre, but we won’t go there right now.

Over the weekend, The Twilight Saga: New Moon set new records for a midnight opening with $26.27 million at 3,514 theaters and for a single day opening with $72.7 million from 4,024 theaters. However, geeks a nerds who hold the same distaste for Twilight do have a reason to rejoice!

Our beloved superheroes (and their superior films), Batman and Spider-Man, held firm against the Twilight onslaught maintaining their place as the first and second biggest domestic weekend openings with $158 million (The Dark Knight) and $151 million (Spider-Man 3) respectively. New Moon opened with $140.7 million.

So, while it seems that Twihardstards are everywhere these days, they can’t hold a candle to all of us nerds and geeks!
