Mortal Kombat: Legacy – Episode 1 is out!!!

Last year a short film titled “> “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” spread like wildfire on the net hinting at a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film Franchise. It was a teaser pitch directed by Kevin Tancharoen in the hope of generating interest in a reboot of the Mortal Kombat film franchise. This is not a very common way to pitch a project – you have to find the money to make the pitch. But it can prove VERY effective. The internet buzz about Rebirth ranged wildly from intense fan fervor to hard core nerd troll venom. But it looks like it all payed off – and instead of a movie, it has given birth to a web series called “Mortal Kombat; Legacy” brought to us by Machinima.com.

I have to say I am nerding out about this pretty bad. I have always been HORRIBLE at video games. But I nonetheless LOVED Mortal Kombat when it first came out. I used to hang out at the arcade at the mall and join the gang of kids that would encircle around and watch the Ubber gamers that monopolized the cabinet and knew all the kill codes. Many a time I offered up my own quarters just to see if they could get to the next level. I saw the original movie with the Goonies like pack of tweens that were my best friends in middle school. Afterwords I vividly recall seeing even younger kids trying to kick each others asses out side the theater. AH! The 90s! So it is with tremendous nerd joy for ME that the first episode of Legacy hints at the all too familiar world; But with modern real world sensibilities that this grown child of the 90s’ craves. You all may disagree. No doubt there are purists and sticklers out there. I am not one of them. I Love the casting, I love the action sequences (I think Rebirth was a pretty good teaser for what we can come to expect), and I love the over all look and feel of what they have come up with. I hope this is a very successful series. Watch the episode below – and then sound off in the comments section to let us here at Big Shiny Robot! know what your thoughts are on it!
