Digital Comic Picks for 1/4/12

All or nothing is a silly way to look at comic books. I’ve had people tell me they won’t try to read comics digitally and others say they’re completely done with paper. I love going to the local comic shop or book store and browsing the graphic novels and collections. Cover art is still a big selling point to me and the web has yet to replace eye popping colors and an explosive image. I’ve made a habit of reading the weekly books digitally. It’s quick, easy, fairly inexpensive, and saves storage space. You don’t have to say goodbye to paper and become a slave to either format, try a little bit of both.

There are a ton of great books coming out this week. For what it’s worth here are the ones I’m most looking forward to:

Dynamite Entertainment
VAMPIRELLA VS DRACULA #1
Fingers crossed this book gets released the same day as the print version.

DARK HORSE COMICS
GOON #37
If you haven’t seen Eric Powell’s art on a crystal clear backlit screen yet try this out, as mentioned last week the new Dark Horse reader for Android works as good as Comixology and Graphicly!
Lone Wolf and Cub MegaBundle
All ten bundles of the epic samurai adventure for $44.99 2849 pages. Get it before it’s gone.

DC COMICS
Another huge week of great super hero comics including Action Comics #5 and OMAC #5, but I’m going to point you towards the suspense and horror books. Keep in mind previous issues drop a full dollar when the new issue comes out so it’s relatively cheap to catch up.
ANIMAL MAN #5
SWAMP THING #5
These two books are complimenting each other in an interesting way and reading both is going to pay off soon.

IMAGE COMICS
SUPER DINOSAUR #7
Give it a try this week you’ll know if it’s for you just by looking at the cover. Friendly reminder Mudman #2 is out this week also.

MARVEL COMICS
For some reason unknown to me Greg Rucka’s run on the Punisher is still not available digitally. Most of the Marvel books I’d like to read are inaccessible online when new but they still have thousands of books online for about $60.00 a year. Always cross check the books available on the mobile apps with the Marvel Digital Unlimited offerings. Chances are a $1.99 back issue from the app is included with your MDCU subscription.

TWOMORROWS Publishing
ALTER EGO #1
Looks like another awesome issue of the ROY THOMAS edited fanzine focusing on DICK GIORDANO.
Digital editions are only $2.95 from the publisher and are easy to read as PDF’s.

2000 AD
I used to read the Judge Dredd Megazine in print but it’s been a few years. Now there’s good reason to catch up with a digital sale. Time to get out the currency conversion software. Anybody know what the hell a £ is?

That’s it this week. I have a hard time figuring out what’s going to be available digitally and where to find it. If you’ve got any tips about sales feel free to drop me a line: ken at bigshinyrobot dot com
