BrusrBot reviews the BSG Mutiny, two episodes in one post.

With computer virus designation #101101010111 destroying my sub-systems, Brusrbot would like to apologize for any delay in BSG posting.  While I have come up with complex equations to battle this nefarious foe, chicken soup and 7up seem to be failing and I have moved to new tactics.

Though, lets skip on to the goodies, BSG, and GOD DAMN MUTINY.

I’m actually glad I took that vacation that delayed my last BSG post on the episode titled “The Oath” or the beginning of the Mutiny on the BSG. With Gaeta trying to take over the military, and Zarek plying for the Quorum of 12 to turn to his side and make him president.  The following episode that just aired a couple of days ago titled, “Blood on the Scales” closed the whole saga up nicely.  Now, why am I combining these two into one post? I think that is the only way to get this epic little bit of writing and action done with justice.

First off, Gaeta, whom many had come to admire at the beginning, is a full blown mutineer, being the man at the communications position, he was relaying misinformation all over the place at the start, not letting people get through, etc. It was tense, giving you that last piece of hope that he might screw this up somehow and keep the Galactica from falling into bad hands, though, we all find out he was successful, to a degree.   Finally Gaeta swallowed his balls and made his move, securing Adama and Saul and have them hauled down to the brig to face trial.  Obviously, these two don’t go down without a fight, as thy are being lead down the hall, the two old men beat the snot out of two youngins and secure their weapons, taking one as a hostage.

Meanwhile, Lee and Starbuck, are weaving through the ship, trying to find out where Adama is, and make a bee-line for the president to secure her and get her off the ship.  This isn’t too much of the action, but, as they find the president, they all bake their way to Baltars little anclave, where she uses his wireless to address the fleet.  The president gives a rousing little speech before she is cut off of the communication by Gaeta, and now the former Chief makes arraignments for the President to take flight away in a raptor for safety on the Cylon Basestar.

The flight makes it off, and eventually, Adama and Saul are captured again, Adama is interrogated by Gaeta and Zarek on traitor crimes, and is “tried” in military court by the two only.  Adama is pretty much on a losing end of a trial that he can’t win, and is sentenced to execution by firing squad.

As Gaeta tries his hand in securing the ship, Zarek turns his hand on the Quorum of 12, trying to persuade them to join his side, as he things it’ll save the fleet.  After much arguing, the quorom basically tells the Vice-President to screw off, as they only take orders from the president.  What does he do? HE FRAKING HAS MARINES BUST IN THERE AND KILL THEM ALL.  We all knew Zarek was a ruthless asshole, but now, man, he just crushed the fleets power structure in his bid for power.  Gaeta is pissed because he thought they had truth on their side, now, they are just liars, you can start to see the seeds of doubt planting in his brain, it was magnificent.

The president is able to get a communications out to all the ships, but is cut off, but, everyone knows what the hell is going on now, and Gaeta and Zarek are none to please.  As Gaeta cowardly orders the execution from Adamas office, not willing to face the man and watch him be killed, Gaeta hobbles himself back into to hear Zarek tell the President that she needs to surrendor, and give in to his terms.  He tells her take Adama is dead, and we finally see some life in the old woman who had been dead to me for the last season and a half.  You can tell her anger, sadness, and fear mixed in the emotion of her voice as she declares to Zarek that she will personally use every last breath and ounce of her energy to end him, probably stomp on his balls too.  It was the president that I had liked at the beginning, it was as if she finally got some life back in her, and wasn’t some squabling boring set piece.

Adama is saved from execution by Lee, Saul, Starbuck and others, who somehow find a large remnant of the ships crew then they all march toward the command center, ready to take back the ship.  This scene was tense, as Gaeta and Zarek were worrying about the incoming Cylon Basestar, and trying to figure if they should fight or not, Zarek was all for it, but Gaeta was hesitant, as if sensing something was wrong.  He found out what that was when Adama and crew bust back in and regain control of the ship.  Adama barks back orders to the basestar, letting our rejuiviated president Roselyn call off the attack.

We ended this tremendously written, acted, and directed episodes with Gaeta and Zarek sitting in an airlock, they both nod to eachother, give a brief. “Well, we almost got away with it” smirk, and then turned to see a full execution squad, with Adama standing behind him.  Gaeta, who had been suffering from the pain of losing his amputated leg forever now, looks down and states. “Its gone” as in the pain in his leg.  He doesn’t get to experience it for long, as Adama gives the orders to pump the two traitors full of lead.

I have to say this was probably one of my favorite two part episodes of any series of any show I’ve seen, just watching it all unfold was like watching someone craft a masterpiece in action, I was literally on the edge of my couch the whole time.  I love how this show takes up no slack, it goes all the way, you go from loving someone, to hating them, and kinda understanding why you hate them, to them being wiped off the show, it is all immaculate in motion.

Next week, NEXT FRAKING WEEK.  The final Cylon returns, and she knows the truth to everything, who is that again? Oh  yeah, Sauls wife, the one he killed with poison for betraying them all to Cylons on New Caprica before he knew what they really were.  How she gets revived, we’ll find out, but OH SWEET GOD, does she look pissed.  As this series draws to a close, I’m sad in some ways, I just wish it could go on, but I know that this is the best route to take that they are on.  Either way, I’ll be spending every night till Friday coming up with ideas of just what might happen, I can’t Fraking wait.
