What would a Joe Carnahan Daredevil have looked like?

With the clock ticking on the rights reverting back to Marvel for Daredevil, it looks like the Joe Carnahan helmed project will not go forward, and the rights will go back to Marvel sometime next year.

Too bad, really, since Carnahan posted some choice tidbits of his vision of Daredevil– a vision, I guess, the execs at Fox didn’t want to pursue. The first one is the “PG-13” version, the second, the more violent “NC-17” version.

So, a period piece? Set in the 70s? Or just a gritty, neo-noir crime thriller. I’d expect nothing less from the guy who brought us the ridiculous awesomeness that was Smokin Aces.

Dear Marvel, when the rights revert back to you– look at this. This actually looks fuggin’ awesome. I’d go see this Daredevil in a second.

But given all of the amazing things they’ve done with Daredevil in the comics in the past few years, they’ve also got a deep, deep well to draw from over in the House of Ideas.  Or they could always do a Law and Order type show at ABC with Heroes for Hire Luke Cage and Iron Fist and attorneys Nelson and Murdock.  And maybe some private detective work by Jessica Jones? And investigative reporting by Ben Urich? Damn, then it would be like The Wire. Just saying.

Or, just let Carnahan make this movie. Because, again, that looks awesome.
