Sony Japan To Cease Production of PS2 Consoles

If you live in Japan and don’t yet have a PlayStation 2, it would behoove you to head to your nearest game store and grab one now, as they’re about to disappear off shelves forever.  Sony Japan have officially announced that they will no longer be producing the popular gaming system and have ceased shipments to retailers.  While there is no word about whether North America or Europe will follow suit, it’s reasonably safe to say that there will soon be a similar announcement made on those continents as well.

Sony launched the Playstation 2 in 2000, and it went on to become the most successful video game system of all time, selling over 150 million units worldwide.  Developers produced more than 10,000 titles, and more than 1.5 billion games have been sold as well.  Speaking of which, games will continue to be produced and available for purchase.

I’m pretty sure most of us here had a PS2, so what was your favorite game for it?  Let us know in the comments below!
