REVIEW: The Walking Dead 3.11 – “I Ain’t A Judas”

Another week, another episode of Walking Dead with our unhappy warriors holed up  in the prison versus the zombie apocalypse and the evil that men do in Woodbury. After last week’s homecoming of Daryl and Merle to the prison, the group must describe whether to hole up in the prison or to hit the road. Glen (rightfully) describes Merle’s addition back as “a snake in the nest,” and both Herschel and Carl have some tough words for Rick about his vacated role as group leader.

Meanwhile, Woodbury rebuilds and the Governor decides to raise an army– presumably against the group in the prison. There are reunions, Tyreese and his group show up again, and. . . .and almost nothing else happens except for a lot of talk, talk, talk.

The Good:

Herschel and Merle’s tet a tet about what will happen when the Governor does attack. Nice explanation about just how evil this guy is that they’re dealing with.
Carl’s words of wisdom to his dad.
Michonne’s exercise routine, interrupted by Merle, telling her not “forget about cardio” (a Zombieland reference? FTW)
Carol hatches a plan to end the conflict once and for all. Way to be a badass, Carol!

The Bad:

(swear words here) but this episode was boring! The storyline was not furthered. Characters were not better developed. And there was nary a zombie fight. I sincerely feel that if someone were to have missed this episode then they wouldn’t really be missing much.
Literally, only three zombie deaths this week. Come on.

The Ugly:

Oh, Rick, you think you saw Laurie again hanging out by the treeline? Get it in gear, man.
And when The Governor takes off his bandage to replace it with an eyepatch? Yuck.

Zombie Kill of the Week:

I guess, by default, almost, Tyreese taking out the lady zombie with the turkey neck with a hammer in her face. But that’s seriously like a 3 out of 10 and completely forgettable in a normal week. But this week. . .
The best zombie violence was what Andrea and Milton did, but it wasn’t a “kill” per se.

Final Score:

Overall, while this is still one of the best shows on tv, this was a completely forgettable episode. I give this 1 and 1/2 eyepatches and a Chris Hardwick one-liner.

But, oh boy, next week– it seems like things are going to come to a head. Let’s hope so.
