IN MEMORIAM: Tom Clancy

Huffington Post Books is confirmed through Tom Clancy’s publisher that the super-star author of political thrillers that spawned many movies and video games that he passed away last night in a Baltimore Hospital.

He’s perhaps most notable for the creation of Jack Ryan, who has been played on screen by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and later this year by Chris Pine. He also has a new book due out in December in the Jack Ryan series.

The Rainbow Six series of video games were how I misspent many hours of my youth between games of Starcraft, each of them bearing his name. All told, his name appeared on as many video games as books he’d written, maybe more. 

The cause of death was not known at the time of press. He was 66 and one of the bestselling authors in the world.
