REVIEW: Robot Chicken Season 6

“Robot Chicken Season 6” is now available to own on Blu-ray and DVD, and creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich have once again destroyed every precious memory from your childhood.

Well, perhaps it isn’t that bad, but nothing is sacred in the hands of these guys. Love M.A.S.K.?  Watch how the group discusses various acronyms, like HELMET, and they kill unsuspecting tourists who think that their hideout Boulder Hill is a real gas station.

They make fun of Polly Pocket and the show “Hoarders” by focusing on Polly’s obsession with all her accessories.

With Velma injured on a case, the Scooby Gang teams up with Lisbeth Salander (“Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) to solve a mystery.

G.I. Joe must face real combat in Afghanistan, and it doesn’t go well.

In the reality show “The Fattest Loser,” contestants Miss Piggy, Mario, Winnie the Pooh, and Garfield train under Barbie to lose weight. Miss Piggy goes against Kung Fu Barbie in a memorable scene, but the contestant who loses the most weight does so in a not-so-fortunate way.

And my personal favorite: Steven Spielberg is asked to quit producing television shows like “Smash” and to go back making movies.  He decides to make the mother of all remakes, Spielberg-style.

WWI becomes a lot more interesting when E.T., War Horse, Celie from “The Color Purple,” and Tin Tin riding a velociraptor riding Jaws join forces to take out the Germans.

Oh, and I must not forget “Top Chef Sweden,” where the contestants only say Bork Bork Bork and throw knives. Classic.

And there’s so much more. Parodies of “The Dark Crystal,” “Shirt Tales,” “Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers,” “Gummi Bears,” and the list goes on. The pop culture icons of our youth have never been so violent or weird.

Robot Chicken Season 6 is now available, and there is commentary on every episode along with a great list of featurettes: The Making of “Robot Chicken” Season 6, Outtakes!, Deleted Animatics, The Dirt on Seth and Matt, and many more.

Special guest voices include Elizabeth Banks, Sam Elliott, Whoopi Goldberg,  Megan Hilty, Zachary Levi, Liev Schreiber, Jon Stewart, Patrick Stewart, Stanley Tucci, Olivia Wilde, Alex Winter, and more.

I still haven’t watched every episode, but I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen (which was a couple of hours’ worth!) If you’re a fan of the show or of pop culture references in general (and not easily offended), I can safely recommend this to you.
