TV: The Flash Gets Stand-Alone Pilot On CW

Anyone following CW’s “Arrow” knows that Barry Allen, aka The Flash is set to make an appearance. Originally the plan was to have the fastest man alive appear in three episodes- No. 8, 9, and 20. With the last of the three to be a back door pilot with Barry Allen putting on the red and yellow suit we all know and love to speed around with the Emerald Archer.  Now it seems that plans have changed. According to Deadline the CW will leave The Flash in episodes 8 and 9 but launch a stand-alone pilot for the speedster instead of the back door pilot in episode 20.

The cast and creative team remain the same with Grant Gustin playing Allen/The Flash and “Arrow” co-creators Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg writing the pilot with the help of Geoff Johns the series scribe; and David Nutter is still scheduled to direct the pilot.

CW said the decision was made after they saw cuts of Episodes 8 and 9, which have been received very well. Doing a stand-alone Flash pilot allows them to flesh out the origin story more with a bigger budget. It is unclear what will happen in Episode 20 of “Arrow” now, but we do know that Barry Allen is a Central City police forensics investigator looking into a series of robberies committed in Starling City that somehow tie into his past.

In the last few episodes of “Arrow” there has been mention of a particle accelerator device and a few tests that have been performed. This is how I think Allen will get connected to the Speed Force that gives him his powers, but who knows if the Speed Force will be explained or even be part of the show. It might simply be easier to say that because of the device he can now run really, really fast. I’m also hoping that with the how amazing  “Arrow” has been so far (the best superhero show on T.V. in a long time in my opinion) that we will get a full on Flash or Speedster show as well. Alas only time will tell, my ultimate hope is that The Flash will go well and we can get a full on Justice League show or at least JL episode. That would be awesome!
