GAMES: Spearpoint 1943

I wanted to bring your attention to “Spearpoint 1943” from Collins Epic Wargames. It’s a quick to learn World War II combat card game that’s currently using Kickstarter to kick off the latest expansion. I’ve been playing the core set and I have to say, after you’ve created your army, it’s a fast-playing game that has the feeling of a tactical strategy with the ease of a card game.

The play mechanics are unlike any I’ve played and I’ve had a lot of fun with it. I’d love to see a multi-player expansion eventually so I could play with a larger group, where I could buy a deck for British Forces, a deck for the Italians, the Japanese, and so on. It would be great fun to play with more people, but the 2 player version is fun enough as it is.

One player takes on the Axis, the other the allies, and you fight. There are dice for random outcomes and various damage conditions possible. It was simple enough to teach my 10 year old, but there’s a complexity to the strategy available that makes it great for advanced players as well. It’s definitely worth checking out.

As I said, they’re expanding the game and have just a few days left on the Kickstarter. I’ve backed it because I want more from this series. It’s a great game and I’d love to check out more from Collins Epic Wargames.

Here’s the Kickstarter. And here’s the original base game.
