Box Office Report Presidents Day Weekend

With the long weekend everything got a bit of help, not that “The LEGO Movie” needed it, and we finally saw “Frozen” drop from the top 5. LEGO broke the record for the Presidents Day Weekend with $63.5 million while the rest of the top 5 was far less successful. Oddly enough 3 of the top 5 are 80’s remakes. “Robocop” isn’t looking to do well, you can read our review here, but lets just say that Ghost Rider 2 had a better opening.

  1. The LEGO Movie: Reigning champ at $63.5. This guy isn’t going anywhere for a while.
  2. About Last Night: First of 3 Valentine’s flicks, $25.6 million which is double its budget.
  3. Robocop: Our critic hated this movie and it seems to have done poorly with $21.7 weekend and $26.4 since it opened.
  4. The Monuments Men: George Clooney’s directorial debut isn’t doing so hot and dropped 30% to $15.5 million.
  5. Endless Love: Another 80’s remake, and one I saw no marketing for, made $13.2 in its first weekend.

“Winter’s Tale” was the other opener this weekend and it hit 7th place with $7.2 million, putting it just above “Frozen” which is about $22 million from hitting $400 million domestic. Next weekend “Pompeii” and “3 Days to Kill” both hit wide release and I assume we will see a small shake up but LEGO still will be #1.
