Video Game Quick Hits 3/4/14

Video game movies don’t have a great reputation, and maybe that’s because it’s difficult to translate the story. It seems strange that you would even consider a film from a game that has no story, but perhaps that’s a strength. “Minecraft” doesn’t seem like a great fit for the movie treatment, but it is often compared to LEGOs and the recent LEGO movie was a smash. Then again, this isn’t confirmed, just in talks. Markus “Notch” Persson, creator of Minecraft” revealed it on Twitter last week, saying “Someone is trying leak the fact that we’re working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie. I wanted to be the leak!”

A number of new titles have been announced for Sony platforms. Their quality is obviously pending, but several sound interesting:

  • Cel Damage HD” from Finish Line Games is a vehicular combat title coming as cross-buy to PS4, PS3, and Vita. It looks a little cartoony, but that can be a good thing.
  • Visiontrick Media is working on “Pavilion,” which they’re calling a “fourth person” adventure. That’s basically a nonsense term but it sounds like you will control the environment to encourage a character, rather than controlling the character directly.
  • Developer Mixed Bag is working on “forma.8,” a Metroidvania style game for PS4 and Vita.
  • Previously announced, the PS4, PS3, and Vita versions of “Fez” have been confirmed as cross-buy (and cross-save) and available March 26th.

Friday’s VGQH announced the March IGC games for Playstation Plus. Today we have the details on the March Games With Gold. “Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution” launched the month on Saturday. It will pass the baton to “Dungeon Defenders” on March 16th.

Slow start to the week, but that’s it for now. Come back Friday for this week’s late edition.
