‘Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

If there is one franchise I hold above all others it is without a doubt the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Not only is it the earliest thing I remember loving, it can also be credited with being my gateway into comic books. Some of the best friendships I’ve ever head centered heavily around those four characters, it has been a consistent influence in my life.

I can’t name a Turtle incarnation I didn’t find joy in, including “The Next Mutation” and I can’t wait to see the new flick, I love it enough to see past any flaws. You may say that makes me blind, but so is love, don’t harsh my mellow man.

Today I learned of a new Turtle picture I wasn’t previously aware of, it’s the movie I never knew I needed, but now that I know, it can’t come soon enough. In the fall of 2008 a handful of guys got together outside a coffee shop and tossed around the idea of making a documentary about the history of the TMNT. Some were more enthusiastic than others but when the meeting was over they had agreed to move forward.

Phone calls were made to Mirage, a miniature set of New York was built to display all of the toys. The creators, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, were approached. All systems were go and they started shooting not really knowing where they would end up.

The above teaser mentions 25 years of history, and as you may know, the 30th anniversary of the TMNT has come and gone. Finally “Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” has found a home and will be released by Paramount on August 12, 2014, just four days after the theatrical release of the upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film from the same studio.

The team including writer/director Randall Lobb have also released a new trailer.

My only regret is that I didn’t make this doc first. August can’t come soon enough. Turtle power.
