Trailer: ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’

The wait is finally over! The first teaser trailer for “Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” has arrived!

Despite its brevity, the trailer speaks volumes. We see President Snow (Donald Sutherland) as he sits in a throne-like chair. Everything is white, like, well, snow. Blindingly white. What we see next is a carefully orchestrated propaganda piece warning the citizens of the districts not to resist the system. If they do, they will starve and bleed.

Then the camera pans out and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson)  is revealed at Snow’s side.  We last saw Peeta when he and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) fought for their lives in the watery arena in “Catching Fire.” Knocked unconscious by her injuries just prior to her rescue, she awoke to find herself in a changed world. District 12 now destroyed, and Peeta a captive of the Capitol.

And now the boy who baked bread is in Snow’s clutches, his demeanor stiff and formal. Where is the young man who gave her a pearl? Is Peeta, her Peeta, still alive? Has Snow placed Peeta in this propaganda piece to send a direct message to Katniss? It’s open war between them now. Who will emerge the victor of these Games?

“Mockingjay Part 1” flies into theaters November 21.
