Alan Moore to Pen ‘Crossed’ Mini Series

“Crossed” stands as one of the most violent, twisted and disturbing comics ever created. Picture a world infested with a zombie-like plague, but instead of turning into a mindless eating machine, the infected retain some form of intelligence and begin to act out on every perverse desire of their id with no consciousness to keep that evil at bay. Needless to say it’s incredibly intense and graphic, and even my husband, who is a huge fan of horror movies, can’t even handle what was shown in the pages of the now-infamous original graphic novel.

In the right hands (namely, creator Garth Ennis), “Crossed” is a marvelously intense and macabre horror story that stays with the reader long after they have put the book down. Unfortunately, the series has a tendency to become obscene just for the sake of shock value (“Psychopath”) and has been hit or miss ever since it started its regular series “Badlands” a few years ago. Moments of brilliance do shine through, especially when Ennis takes over writing duties every so often, but I lost interest awhile back and only pick up issues when he’s in charge of them.

Which is why I’m very excited that famed writer Alan Moore is taking up the reigns for a six part mini series dubbed “Crossed  +100.”

“Crossed +100” will take place one hundred years after the initial outbreak and will chronicle the attempts of the leftover humans to reestablish some kind of order back into society, only to be thwarted by the remaining Crossed and their mysterious resurgence.

Ennis has given this new story his full blessing and had this to say about Moore’s take:

So it turns out Jimi Hendrix wants to play in my band. He wants to sing my songs. I don’t usually worry about vindication, but Alan is probably the one person whose opinion would be enough to change my mind about what I do.

He’s the most talented individual the medium’s ever seen or ever will; that he’s writing Crossed  means everything to me.

“Crossed +100” will be drawn by Gabriel Andrade (“Ferals”) and will hit comic shops this December, just in time to replace the lumps of coal fans should be getting in their stockings.
