Interview with Steve Madureira of Airship Syndicate

Why can’t there be more great looking JRPG’s like this? Battle Chasers: Nightwar was made by ex-Darksiders developers and the original comic book series creator, Joe Madureira. I love Joe Mad’s designs. They’re very dynamic and reminds me of Street Fighter Alpha in a lot of ways. His stint on Uncanny X-Men was cool and I loved his work in The Astonishing X-Men: Age of Apocalypse. But man, Battle Chasers was my jam in the 90’s. It was basically an RPG in comic book form.

It’s not a dungeon crawler. It’s a Final Fantasy-esque game. The old Final Fantasy, that is. The good ones. It also draws inspiration from Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star, and Thundercats (Check out THAT trailer below). Old school JRPG flavors mix with procedural generation and crafting for what looks to be one of the year’s finest gaming experiences. Love the aesthetic, the high quality sounds and animations, and the in depth combat system. After our hands on with the demo at PAX West 2017, the level we played through was hard and the rest of the game looks brutally tough. Can’t wait for this. I expect this to be on my years BESTEST list. Battle Chasers: Nightwar is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 3, while a Nintendo Switch drops later.
