Due out March 2010, Capcom is doing the 8-bit thing again for another installment in the Mega Man series.

I’ve finally heard someone complaining about these 8-bit titles, Zombietron had the argument of: “Who wants to spend good money on a game that doesn’t look good?” The answer is, of course, the good doctor. Mega Man 9 was awesome, one of the best in the entire series. As it made fun of itself, and was in on the joke, it was about as well-balanced as a Mega Man game can be. It introduced innovative new concepts to the series without loosing the classic look and feel. Basically it felt like a brand new game, that would have been worth the full cost of a video game, but I was only being charged for a $10 dollar download.

Hence my excitement for Mega Man 10. It looks like they are doing the same thing, but in a way that seems even more aware of what people are asking for. Namely me, the good doctor. They are boasting a new easy mode, as well as the ability to play proto-man without an additional download.

I was already completely sold on the idea of Mega Man 10, but after watching the video below, I have to say I have considerably raised my expectations. Watch it now!

So, I think we can all safely get excited now. As a true robot, how can you not be? (Maybe even Zombietron?) As a reminder, it is coming out in March!

On a small digression, because it is so close to robot Christmas: for some reason Amazon dropped the price on Zelda Spirit tracks $10 dollars, and still in time to get it for Christmas. So buy it on Amazon for only $25 dollars!

As much as I gripe about Nintendo, I think this is a perfect opportunity for them to get nerd money. I want a vintage style cardboard box with a cd or something. Similar to the art they put together for MegaMan 9.

I think we can expect something similar for this. I was hoping to see the new cover art today (Because Mega Man 9’s was so cool.) But alas I couldn’t find it yet. In either case the “Robot Illness” Plotline sounds motha effin awesome.

Because some older gamers prefer difficulty over “high definition 8 bit graphics”. I mean there was a time when this was the quality to beat. And because of said limitation they made games more difficult. Most games made today are made with the idea of story not difficulty or gameplay. With some exceptions obviously.

I think a focus on graphics has hurt gaming. I think Mega Man 8 bit is more fun and challenging than 98% of games with 3D graphics

I would not go as high as 98%, Swank. 65%, tops.

Also, I’m I the only robot upset at the insistence of Mega Man games on Wii-ware and such, but no Mega Man X titles yet?

I’m not upset, but I would like to see some of them. Although I don’t insist on them being on Wii-ware. I think since they did Maverick Hunter X on the PSP Sony might have a good shot at getting X games in the future. Who knows.
(I think the main problem is that the X games deviated from Mega Man Ideals around 7 (Which was still good.) and so they wouldn’t want to push the series in rewind and release 16 bit version maybe?) (Although just continuing the series in semi- 3D could be cool as well.

I liked the original Mega Man games, but the first few X games is where I really got hooked. I think after X3 is when I lost interest in the series.

I would disagree with the statement that focusing on graphics is hurting gaming. Without the growth the industry has had with graphics, we wouldn’t have Metroid Prime, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows or Ghostbusters. While I agree that focusing JUST on graphics hurts a lot of games. I don’t think the industry would be rivaling every other entertainment industry without them.

I can’t say for certain about you Kill, but I was in the same boat with the X games. But I didn’t “lose interest.” It was a financial situation, there weren’t enough Christmases a year for me to keep up with them. So I stopped until they were in collections. And I think it was the same way with the other Mega Man games in the series. You play 3 of them, and then it’s hard to spend good money on something that looks the same with the exception of 8 new bosses that are oddly similar, than the same final boss.

I think I get it, but I have to say Capcom does a wonderful job keeping the games feeling like something new. Mega Man 9 was such a good example of it. And I think it looks like Mega Man 10 is going to do the same thing.

Oh, I was talking about rereleasing the old SNES X. My first “Traditional” Mega Man was X2, and I was hooked. To sum up, though, I expect to lose hours of my life and my voice due to screaming at the screen to this one.
