CONTEST: For Prequel Appreciation Day!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at 9:10 am Category: Contest, Go Go Gadget, Star Wars, Top

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the release of The Phantom Menace.  I know a few of you don’t like the prequels much, and others like it begrudgingly so, but a lot of people do like it.  And for those people like me who love it, we’re celebrating what we do like about the prequels today.

For our contest, we will be giving away this 2GB Obi-Wan Kenobi Flash Drive from Mimoco.  (You can check them out here.)

All the lucky winner has to do is go to the comments below and tell us what you like about the prequels.  Snarky prequel bashing comments will be disqualified.

And you can enter twice by going over to the Star Wars Examiner page, subscribing to my updates there and commenting on the contest page there.

The winner will be decided randomly tomorrow, so get commenting!

I love the prequels! Honestly, I nearly wet myself with excitement the first time I saw TPM. :) Those first 20 minutes of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon onboard the Trade Fed cruiser are awesome.

Heck, I even like the love story in AOTC!

What I appreciate most about the prequels is the back story. The original 3 did not need anything “added” to them but the prequels gave us a fresh taste of the Star Wars universe, something new to look forward to, and a healthy back story too.
Anyone who bashes the prequels is not a true Star Wars fan in my opinion because what fan would not want more of what they love!?

I’d have to say, it’s when Yoda walks in the room with a cane, kicks Dooku’s ass, and then hobbles out like it was just another Wednesday.

Hopefully this isn’t a duplicate comment, but… my favorite is when Yoda walks into the room, kicks Dooku’s ass, and hobbles out like it was just another Wednesday.

Hmmm…that’s a tough one. I appreciate the fact that I can make e fun of Jar-Jar and the pod racer commentators…
Seein Yoda finally being B to the A was for me the best thing to happen to Star Wars since…I don’t know, Kenner!

Yes, a Lot of people don’t like the prequels, BUT I DO! “The Phantom Menace” was really cool, it used to be one Of my favorites. For a “90′s movie” the graphics are still fantastic even for today’s standards. The Podrace was really cool, and the “Duel of the fates” was awesome! Attack of the clones is still one of my faves, it has a lot in common with my all time favorite movie, “The Empire Strikes Back”. The visuals are fabulous as well and Jango is just plain AWESOME! “Revenge of The Sith” is my Favorite of the Prequels, they did a such great job connecting Episode 3 to “A New Hope”. The first half felt like a classic Star Wars adventure, and the rest was very compelling, seeing the very thing we could only imagine for years and years, unfold right before our eyes.

I guess that’s I’ll I’ve got for right now, I’ll be waiting…

Favorite thing about the prequels: Jar-Jar Binks.

And no that’s not a sarcastic snarky comment. I’m the one person on the planet that actually likes the Threepio substitute. Not more than Threepio, but I still like him.

I love the prequels. Being a relative new comer to the Star Wars legacy, and having never seen any of them in theaters to my great dismay, the prequels set the stage beautifully for the classics. I do theatrical combat training, and must say the prequels own tail as far as fighting goes. The lightsaber choreography was done amazingly! And to have the actors themselves perform most of it is a feat. That’s why I love the prequels…the awesome lightsaber combat.

I cannot say what I like, guess I have to say what I love, cos I’m totally crazy about Star Wars. I am from this younger genaretion, so I first saw Ep I before the Old Trylogy. And I have to say I prefer prequels. They are amazing. They brought such a big complement to the SW Universe. Ep I TPM is an epic tale with a beautifule planets and creatures. Also young Anakin, we can see vader from completely other side. And of course Duel of the Fates… This music is always in my heart. Darth Maul, Amidala and Qui-Gon….Ep II AOTC- one of the best for me. Very moving and gripping with great action. Thanks for Natalie Portman, she is such a brilliant and smart actress. And good location, Lake Como in Italy. I love the forbidden relationship between padme and anakin. And the scene when Anakin kills Tuskens and words “Someday I will be the most powerful jedi”… In taht moment I see vader and what he has done. Ep III ROTS- very sad :( I love it but i alway cry when i see it, cos i experience Anakin’s fall. Great dialogs, music- Williams, good job. The death of Padme and all the Jedi, Chewbacca once again, little Luke and Leia. And on the Mustafar Anakin and Obi-Wan`s fight. Burning Anakin/Vader. The story is complete thanks to these episodes. I cannot imagine my life without it. Thank You Mr. Lucas for creating such an amazing world. Sorry for a long comment, May The Force Be With You!!!

I loved Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is one of my favorite actors, and getting to see him play the young Kenobi rocked. I think he was the best part of all the prequels.

Following the process from first word that they’re going to make a prequel to the opening day screening. Being completely spoiled along the way. Learning all the pieces (and false rumors) and trying to piece it all together, then finally spending opening day and seeing it several times, and mentally figuring out what I remembered, what I just saw and how those got all mixed up. Was a great ride. And then immediately start the process all over again for the next movie.

What I love most about the prequels..Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. My two favorite Jedi…the prequels showed just how awesome the Jedi were. The lightsaber duels…epic. And as a first grade teacher, it opened the door to bring a love of Star Wars to a new generation. My entire classroom is decked out in Star Wars and for prequel appreciation day we made Padawan braids, had ice pops (since they look like lightsabers w/o handles) and I made them lightsaber cupcakes.

I love everything Star Wars- and in 1999, I was able to devote my entire day to the premiere of this movie. I had just graduated from high school the week before, and it was going to be my first Star Wars premiere ever(ok, not counting the release of the Special Editions).

I saw Episode 1 six times opening day! I still have the ticket stubs to prove it.

I can’t compete with the other posts here, but my favorite prequel moment is still the moment when Darth Maul activates both ends of his light saber for the first time. No matter what you think of the prequles, you can’t deny the pure awesomeness of that moment. If the essence of what Star Wars means to me on an emotional level could be distilled into one moment, that’s the one.

AOTC:
1=Anakin
2=Obi-Wan
3=Dooku and has Lightsaber!
4=Coruscant speeder chase
5=Anakin/Padme love story
6=Yoda/Dooku fight
7=CGI Yoda (wish he was CGI in ALL the films!)
8=Kamino segment
9=Battle of Geonosis (the Clone War!)
10=Jango Fett

ROTS:
1=Anakin/Obi-Wan/Dooku fight
2=Birth of Vader
3=General Grievous
4=Birth of the Empire, this is how liberty dies….
5=Anakin/Obi-Wan duel
6=Opening space battle
