EARLY REVIEW: Clone Wars Season 3
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 at 1:20 pm Category: Cartoons, Clone Wars, News, Reviews, Star Wars, TopI have seen the season 3 premiere of Clone Wars and I have to say my breath is took.
I’m not allowed to write with any spoilers until after the premiere, but the training of the Clones and the invasion of Kamino that we’ve heard so much about have been worth the wait. The painterly qualities of these episodes have been knocked up another notch and it looks like I’m watching paintings with each frame.
The battle sequences are incredibly rendered and the animation models are getting better and better. In fact, there were a few times when Shaak Tii was deflecting laser bolts from droids that I had to stop and rewind and watch it again because it was so beautifully put together.
At Celebration V, Dave Filoni mentioned that Asajj Ventress would be coming into her own this season, and the teases we saw of her were tremendous. Her appearance in the premiere is quite a thing to see. And I love her hyper-sexualized nature. It took me a little off guard, but I think it’s a very smart direction to take the character. This is a much more grown up and confident Ventress than the one who had her lightsabers taken from her by Yoda on Toydaria in the season premiere.
A new character is introduced, though I’ll save my impressions of him for my review, but he’s one of my favorites and has a very Gunga Din feel to him. His name is 99 and I think you’ll all love him as much as I did.
I will also leave you with a warning. Have your Season One sets standing by. (If you order now, you can have it before the premiere). You’ll want to watch the episode “Rookies” before and after you watch the premiere. In fact, if you have a DVR, it would be my advice to watch the first half of the premiere, watch “Rookies” on Blu-ray, and then watch the second half of the premiere.
Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
I’ll have a full review up on September 17, 2010, when the show premieres on Cartoon Network.

Though I am not as big a Star Wars addict as many other people around here, I must sound my opinion that this show is very good on it’s own as well and it’s very easy to follow and also very entertaining.
From what you said, sounds like TCW S3 is gonna KICK A LOT OF ASS!!!
Clone Wars for me actually makes up for the horrible Prequel mistakes.
Sure some of the earlier season 1 episodes were hit n miss, but its finally found its adult following and is astonishing! Never thought I’d say that, but there I did! Star Wars is back, and its the best weve seen since the OT.
Well done Lucas and Filoni you have earned my maximum respect once again.
For those Star Wars fans that have missed out on Clone Wars because of the bad taste left from the prequels, I suggest you watch all of the on bluray, but the earlier episodes are sickly and filled with Droid banter, but still good.
ugh…TCW is horrible.
Darth, I’m glad you like TCW, but the prequels weren’t mistakes.
And Dake, my guess is you haven’t watched the show.
Best thing about the premiere so far? NO DROID “HUMOR”
Really? You don’t like droid humour? I’ve been watching season 1 again and I can’t get enough of it.
@Swank-mo-tron:
Sarcasm, right?

No. I watch the show with my kids and they love it, and it makes me chuckle, too.
Wow I can’t wait! Thanks for the post Swank.
I am incredibly excited about Clone Wars Season 3! The level of quality you see in this series is simply unparalleled. There is an undeniable cinematic quality to anything that has the name Star Wars attached to it, and Clone Wars does not disappoint!
As for the prequels, as far as I am concerned, they deserve our utmost respect. Were it not for them, the Star Wars franchise would never be what it is today. It would’ve remained a dated thing of the past that sadly many young people of today would never have enjoyed. The OT is not watered down by the prequels, clone wars, etc. It is enhanced in awesome ways. Without the prequels (whatever their faults may be), the Clone Wars series would never have come about, and Star Wars’ golden age would’ve remained a thing of the past.
As for droid humor, yes, it can be cheesy at times. However, I enjoy it and kids find it funny. We as “mature” adults often forget the wonder of Star Wars from a child’s point-of-view. What makes Star Wars so awesome is that it is truly accessable to all age groups. It brings out the big kid in all of us, and there is nothing wrong with that. Some people just take things too seriously and forget what Star Wars is most about–having fun! “Truly wonderful the mind of a child is.”
is 99 a clone? is Fordo the red arc!?
