Dick Grayson gets a TV show?

It would seem so.

According to IMDb, McG and the CW have teamed up for a show about Dick “DJ” Grayson’s pre-Robin days in the circus:

Batman’s sidekick Robin has landed his own TV show.

The Graysons will explore Robin’s alter-ego Dick ‘DJ’ Grayson before he paired up with the caped crusader.

The show is being made by Warner Bros. and director McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision - and will appear on U.S. network The CW.

Knowing how unreliable Batman news on IMDb can be, I checked Variety.  Unfortunately the story’s solid.

They’re eyeing this as a replacement to Smallville, which I was never terribly interested in.  But, at least with a young Clark Kent, he’s exhibiting his powers and the like.  Dick’s (or “DJ” in this case) character really isn’t really there until his parents are killed.  How long can they spread it out before they have to bring Bruce into it?  Will a show about a kid acrobat in a travelling circus be that interesting?  Will it be interesting enough for comics fans?

I wonder.

Maybe if it were Star Wars, you’d be more excited for this crap.

I love Batman almost as much as Star Wars, but this… this is beyond the pale….

Look, this may sound… well, weird. But the ONLY reason I would have ANY SMALL amount of faith in this is that McG is involved. I know, I almost threw up just typing that sentence. But he is involved in the series Chuck on NBC which I think is pretty good. But overall, I would give this idea a solid robotic thumb down without hesitation.

If you are going to do this why not just do a Robin series? His adventures as Robin without Batman? But, you know, make it GOOD.

LOL, The MAIN reason I wouldn’t watch this is because McG is behind it!

Is it just me or that guy grasping at straws something fierce?

First it was the blatant attempt to rip off “Spaced” - that thankfully crashed and burned. And now a story about a circus kid who we are supposed to give a rats ass about because eventually he becomes Robin - which may be the WORST pitch for a TV show since “Birds of Prey” (which could have been cool IF it had followed the comic book one iota).

Some one explain to me why Warner (and its mutant children like CW) are wasting their time with this drivel - when they could roll Smallville into a decent Wonder Woman show (- and just skip the film production nonsense on that as well) and keep the same demographics that way?

…..DJ?

Seriously?!?

Um… It just doesn’t sound all that interesting. A TV show about carnies before one becomes a sidekick. Ehhhh.
