UPDATED: Spidey Recast?
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 at 2:55 pm Category: Movies, NewsUPDATE: superherohype.com has posted the following update to this story: Sony Pictures tells us that there is no truth to the rumor that the studio is looking to replace Tobey Maguire in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in future “Spider-Man” movies.
By now, we have all heard the rumors that Spider-Man 4 & 5 will be shot back to back.
Well, now Latino Review is throwing their hat in the mix and reporting that the producers are looking to recast Peter Parker in the new films. Supposedly topping their list? These dudettes:

Yeah, Patrick Fugit and Michael Angarano… I’m sorry, these guys don’t look that great to me, not to mention they look younger that the current Spider-Man/Peter Parker that has already been established. I’m all for new cast members, but so far I am not impressed with their supposed “top choices”.
Now, keep in mind this is completely unconfirmed, so take this with a grain of salt.

I think Pat Fugit would be great. That other kid would suck.
Did anybody else see Forbidden Kingdom? He was totally the weak link in that movie.
I’m all about Patrick Fugit. Rent Wristcutters, he could pull it off…
But I’m sure there are better actors out there for the part.
I think I know a robot (who happens to speak the dialect of moisture vaporaters) who has relations with Patrick Fugit. We should ask him to upload some info on the scoop.
But, yes, Tobey is Spiderman. Just like Michael Keaton was Batman. Kilmer and Clooney were recast and killed it. Then Bale comes in and then we’re all ok again.
Those two guys above would kill Spidey.
I talked to all pertinent parties close to Patrick. Apparently his agents didn’t know about it either.
I think it was producers just putting together a contingency list.
And I think Spider-man could be “killed” by Fugit. Seriously. The other kid, yeah.
But Sony’s option is on Spider-man as such that they retain it as long as they’re making new movies, meaning that they’re going to turn this into a James Bond. And Tobey Maguire will be the Sean Connery, Fugit, perhaps, the Lazenby (who was arguably one of the best) and then we’ll get a Roger Moore on the series by the 10th installment or so.
