Stan Winston: 1946 – 2008

I just got the news that Stan Winston died last night.

I had the opportunity to meet the man, the legend, at Comic-Con when he was promoting Jurassic Park III and The Time Machine and he spoke there of projects that have since not borne fruit and it makes me sad because this man was a king. He spoke of a Dark Crystal-like project, a film by the Winston Studios peopled entirely with his creations. I don’t know if the film would have been very good, but it would have been wonderful to look at.

There’s only a few sites reporting this, so if it’s not true, I’ll feel like a complete ass-hole, but either way. There’s the news.

UPDATE: There’s been way more confirmation about this. And it sucks. Remember that time he built this?
