GONK cracks open the final issue of the ‘Deluge’ story arc in Star Wars: Knight Errant.
If you read my review of Issue #4, you know that I felt that the storyline of the Deluge arc was mostly wrapped up with the salvation of Aquilaris, and that stopping Zodoh the Hutt from attacking another planet could have been saved for another storyline altogether. But I’m happy to report that the fifth issue of Star Wars: Knight Errant – Deluge handles it all just fine. This is a strong finale for handling the Hutt interloper into Sith space — and Kerra Holt and Jenn Devaad decide to help a Sith world in order to save it from death by flooding.
Zodoh begins his attack on Lord Daiman’s stronghold on Darkknell, and Kerra and Jenn have a plan: let Kerra destroy the master control aboard Zodoh’s flagship, while Jenn keeps the skies clear. Does it work? I’m not going to spoil it, except with this phrase: zero-gravity lightsaber duel with a axe-wielding Hutt.
John Jackson Miller brings out some great dialogue in this issue, from Kerra figuring out where in Zodoh’s ship to find out where to go, to some of the witty banter between Zodoh and Kerra. But in such an action-packed finale, the real treat is the well-scripted visuals – as we go from hand to hand fighting to space battles to the effects of Zodoh’s Stormdriver technology. David Daza jumps in to do the pencils in this issue, but is fairly close to Iban Coello’s style from the bulk of this story, with Sergio Abad’s inking and Michael Atiyeh’s colors helping it stay constant. Some of my favorite panels include Kerra’s arrival onto the Voracious, Zodoh’s appearance, and an encounter between Daiman and Zodoh.
A solid ending to an entertaining arc, wrapping everything up – Miller’s final installment for the Deluge story brings the action climax worthy of the end of a Star Wars movie. Thumbs up!
