Jesus.

I hate seeing news like this and I hate writing about it even more.  More than that, I hate that it happens.

Michael Turner passed away yesterday from a rare kind of bone cancer.  The guy was 37.  I had a love/hate relationship with his art, but the man was a respected titan in the field and the comics industry is slightly less awesome now that he’s gone.  Seriously, without Michael Turner covers a lot of books won’t sell.

And let’s face it. Comics are going to be a lot less sexy without his influence. The girls he drew were hot. This is really sad on a number of levels.

More details at Newsarama.

I really liked the work he did on Superman/Batman early in Jeff Loebs run on that book.  Anybody else have any favorites they’d like to point out?

How horrible. I got to meet him a few years ago at SDCC 2003 and the guy was a pleasure. He had been drawing and signing books all day, you could see his exhaustion and waited until everyone had a book signed on the last day of the Con. What a true loss to the comics community.

Always hate to see someone who’s work I admired pass on. I’d go back and forth on his stuff too, liked some, didn’t like others, but whether I thought it was awesome or not, his talent was undisputable. First Wieringo, now Turner…it’s been a rough stretch.
