Brian Michael Bendis announced today at the New York Comic Con that the events of Ultimatum will be the end of Ultimate Spider-Man. Sort of.

This July Marvel will be launching Ultimate Comics, and much like Daredevil’s “relaunch” in 1998, Ultimate Spider-Man will be hitting it’s second volume after 133 issues. Bendis has stated that it will pick up several years after the events of Ultimatum and will be a new launch point for the series with a new artist, David Lafuente, who did the pencils in the most recent Ultimate Spider-Man Annual. It’s best to trust in Bendis to craft the best story possible for Ultimate Spider-Man, as he’s never let down his readership. However Lafuente filling Stuart Immonen’s shoes with hisĀ  pusedo anime shitastic artwork doesn’t seem suitable for a book as good Ultimate Spider-Man. Give that talentless hack Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.

Ugh, having that douche bag take over on the artwork is like Van Halen asking the drummer from Def Leppard to do lead guitar.

And just so you know what you’re in for. Ultimate Spidey is going from this to this

If I understand correctly you are saying this is a good thing. Everyone knows that Def Leppard’s drummer can get Bi-zay with the axe.

I actually really liked the Ult Spidey annual. I agree that Lafuente isn’t as awesome as Immonen, but its not bad. How long did we read Ultimate Spider-Man with Bagley?

As long as Bendis stays on this book, I wouldn’t care if Alex Ross did the pencils (this is a joke because Alex Ross sucks).

Theory: This new Spider-Man going to be the son/daughter of Peter Parker, hint the “…it will pick up several years after the events of Ultimatum…”

Reaction: Crap, crap, mega-crap.

From what I understand it’s 2 years after Ultimatum, so, it won’t be Spider-Man’s daughter. I think they are building up for it to be Jessica Drew. But I don’t know, I’m gonna wait to see how it all turns out.

I’m not quite looking forward to the change, but I’m willing to give Bendis the benefit of the doubt. Though I know that art is gonna be beyond terrible.

Wait. How can Jessica Drew be Spider-Man and Spider-Woman at the same time?

It could still be Peter’s kid. If Peter’s kid is a fetus during Ultimatum it could happen. Look at the cover for Ultimate Spider-Man #132 — Why is MJ and Kitty fighting about? Is Kitty carrying Peter’s kid?

You got to remember that Ultimate Spider-Man is very slow. So, it only been, like, a month or two since Peter dumped Kitty and went back to MJ.

I am a huge fan of Stuart Immonen and I’m really sad to see him leaving the USM boat (awesome art and solid story). Still it’s harsh to say that Lafuente is talentless (your exemple isn’t the best page of the third annual) and back to the first issue, Bagley’s art wasn’t that good (and look how good it was hundred issues later). Backed up by Bendis story, i’m sure it will be good and it will keep on being better with time (given there won’t be a f@cking second ultimatum before). You say Lafuente is crap but what can YOU do, if you draw that good go to Marvel for a job.

Robin,

I thought that Bagley’s art got progressively worse as the series went on. And I’ve seen Lafuente’s other work, I think it’s pure crap.

hey there
I think mark bagley had (has) a unique artistic/cartunish sense of drawing and thats what gives him talent, that along with the cool poses he usualy gave spidey
and Stuart Immonen puts realy good expresions on his drawings witch are kind of cartuny
so lafuente’s work will fit in nicely to the comic considering the past artists

Bagley’s art was really good and it sucked when he left. and Immonen wasn’t bad but i think he could draw mary jane a little better than he does. but this lafuente guy sucks.

ive been following ultimate spiderman since it first started back all those years ago. but with this new shitty artist and this weird jump in the story… well it breaks my heart but i may drop the series.. why cant things go back to the way they were, with bendis and immonen doing their thing? this sucks and lafuente sucks
