Teehee. Just like the reviewer, I’m another “good little mormon boy, blah blah blah” so I also found some of the sex and violence over the top.

On the one hand, I can see the point that violence should be more frowned upon than sex. Still, from a religious standpoint, sex is supposed to be something sacred shared privately between a husband and wife, and so to see it presented crudely on screen with two well-toned actors can be seen as somewhat offensive to the more prudish out there.

Meanwhile, violence like Dr. Manhattan blowing up Vietnamese soldiers is just so outrageous that it doesn’t affect the sensibilities as much.

Still, even without the sex scene, this was a very adult story. I definitely wouldn’t show it to my little ones, even if the nudity and blood were removed entirely.

i haven’t read the Watchmen comic series, but i can’t imagine them packing any more into one movie even if they wanted to, which is good for me, makes me feel like i got my money’s worth

I think that’s why they prefer the violence to sex. It’s further removed from their reality, so it’s easier to tell the kids “Never ever do that in real life.”

Sex, however, they don’t have the same luxury with. So sex hits closer to home and is a much harder pill to swallow.

I don’t agree with them, but I get why sex would ruffle their feathers faster than violence would. Although the violence is what got to me… seeing Rorshach ripped apart in Antarctica made me feel icky… in a way that no other movie has managed to do yet.

Oh, I agree. But I think it’s bizarre.

Even righteous people have sex, but don’t murder.

It’s an odd contradiction.

It seems to me that the conservative right (especially the Christian block) takes the other side, that it is better for people to see violence than for them to see sex and nudity.

Well, sex is a more socially acceptable behavior than murder. Sex is also much more pleasant and nicer.

I’d rather have a loving kid than a violent one.

Hey! I liked the freaking squid! lol
But honestly, I don’t know how that ending without the squid does the source material justice, that twisted, out of left-field ending went perfectly with the feel and the depth of Watchmen. I’m going to try to keep my expectations low so I won’t be disappointed, but honestly, I’m worried about this ending.
And man, I am very disappointed with all this rampant sex in movies, put that stuff in the directors cut, I don’t feel like I can take my sister to see this with me and I always like to take her to movies with my friends
