Muppets Sequel Update
Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 at 8:01 pm Category: NewsThe eagerly awaited sequel to The Muppets is currently shooting in London. Entitled The Muppets…Again! the film now has a release date of March 21, 2014, and Entertainment Weekly had the opportunity to interview Kermit the Frog about the upcoming film:
I know you just started shooting, but what can you tell me at this point about the plot of the movie?
I can actually tell you quite a lot because I have a press release in front of me, which makes it very easy! The idea of this film is that our gang is on this global tour, and we’re selling out these grand theaters all over Europe—in Berlin, Madrid, London—but we sort of get into a little bit of trouble when we run across my doppleganger. He’s the world’s number one criminal, Constantine, and he happens to look an awful lot like me. I won’t tell you any more than that, but let’s just say mayhem ensues.
Some of the humans starring in the film include Tina Fey as a Russian prison guard, Ricky Gervais as Constantine’s evil sidekick, and Ty Burrell as an Interpol agent.
In October we reported that Christoph Waltz would be the Interpol agent, but now it looks like his role has been downgraded to a cameo.
Gervais has expressed some nervousness at being in a film with the Muppets: “Luckily I can sing, I’m not bad actually, I’m a failed pop star so I can sing . . . But dancing, it fills me with dread and I have to sing and dance in this, I mean do some proper Hollywood numbers.”
And will the songs be as good as in previous Muppet films? “Man or Muppet” won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, and nothing can ever compare to “Rainbow Connection.”
I just want to know why Pepe the Prawn isn’t in the group photo. He sadly received little screen time in The Muppets. I hope they make up for that in the sequel.
