In the article, they discuss the realistic chances that the third installment of the new Batman franchise will be based on Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. There’s no chance.

And I know this might be blasphemy, but I don’t want to see that movie in the Nolan universe. And if I did, I wouldn’t want to see it until about 25 years from now.

Wouldn’t it be great if they made a kick ass trilogy and then capped it off after a 20 year hiatus with DKR? That would be radical.

I like the idea of “DKReturns” in maybe 10-15 years after maybe 2 more Nolanesque films hit.

But the main reason for not doing it anytime soon is money.

Each new villain represents a Warner Brothers killing. The WB guys will milk the franchise until Nolan or the audience feels it’s maxed out. I just hope Nolan doesn’t decide he’s done after the 3rd one, and WB decides “go fuck yourself, we’re still gonna have Batman”, so they hire Brett Ratner.
