A stunning difference
As we set down for a night of Mountain Dew and Hoops, we decided to compare the top franchises and give our recommendation.
From the get go, I thought NBA Live looked half-assed, and not at all what I’d expect from EA after playing NCAA and MADDEN 2010. The models were choppy, and the texture-popping and clipping was something I couldn’t get past, I understand with the amount of motion on the court your characters will clip, but at least the team working on 2k10 did everything they could to prevent or hide the problem. The next thing that caught our viciously scathing glances was the skating motion the characters in Live seemed to take when heading to the hoop. I found my character clearing distances of 6-9 feet with a single sweeping step, reminiscent of figure skating in the Olympics. Not to mention once you’ve started you move to the hoop, its easier, and more likely to go through a player, as opposed to around them. After trying to deal with these problems I then had to deal with the controls. They were sluggish and felt unresponsive I had to press Y three times to convince my player to jump and every character felt exactly the same, same speed, same motion, same physics…. same same same same same. HOWEVER I will not short NBA LIVE of what it does well.. The interactive menus, and animations were FANTASTIC… rivaling those of NBA 2k10, So EA I tip my hat to your menu animating capabilities. Maybe next year the menu guy can make the rest of the game as well.
NBA 2k10 however seems to understand what a basketball game should include. Upon starting our game the visuals were night and day better. The models were smooth, the textures were decent and after 2 quarters we had only seen 2 or three pops on the jerseys as opposed to the 35+ we saw in NBA Live. The court was bright and reflective, and unlike the poor attempt EA made at showing the reflection of the stadium lighting, and banner advertising in the floor, you can actually read the items reflected on the court in 2K10 thus adding to the realism of the game. Upon setting up the pick and roll with my characters they were colliding realistically and actually playing off of each other. When I went to the hoop for a shot, I didn’t skate 10 feet, I took a jumper, or dribbled in closer before attempting the shot. Surprisingly enough 2K10 decided that we should hear announcers during half-time discussing realistically what happened during the game, and what was going on. Whereas EA didn’t want the announcers to record extra voice-overs I suppose. As I changed players through passing, I also noticed that the players seemed much more realistic in controls the guards were quick, responsive, and dodgy. And the centers were slower, and felt like I was playing a 6 foot 5 monster as opposed to everyone feeling like Andre the Giant.
In summary if you want an arcade style game reflective of NBA Jam on the SNES, then buy Live and wallow in your misery. If you want a real gaming experience, built for people who not only love the NBA but love games, then purchase 2k10 and support a company that takes pride in their work, and believes in giving you something worth playing.

Horrible game ratings! I’ve always been a 2k fan but NBA Live has done a great job this year. I will have to say that NBA fans have a choice this year, so they will have to see for themselves. This review would have been on point for 2k9 against Live 2009 but it’s not on point for 2k10 against Live 2010.

NBA 2K10 no doubt, its better and they release it for PC, which is the best part.
I thought the defense on 2k10 was really solid you can switch your defensive strategy using the bumpers and do team changeups on the fly while running down court also pulling theleft trigger squares you up to your man or the basket, and once again if you don’t play your defense the ai will exploit that find the open man and get their points. if you’re an nba strategist (I’m not even close) you’ll love it.
I had a chance to play it with them and the defense is a lot more forgiving than last years 2k game. Zombietron was able to sit down, having no basketball skill at all (you had to be there to see the mid court shots) and was able to compete defensivly on the default setting. I spent two weeks last year learning how to cover my guy in a zone so I wouldnt be punished everytime I missed my assignment. The defense was much better and much more responsive in 2k10.
Thats one of the most biased reviews i have ever read…Im a 2k fan ive been playing 2k since 2k5 with ben wallace on the covet that was only $20…so dont take this wrong but i would never write a review as horrible as that…in this review your basically saying that nba live 10 is worst then last year because on every website live was rated higher than that for live 09…so if you cant see that live has improved then your a dumb ass and shouldnt be reviewing games if u are too stupid to notice improvements…by what ive seen from playing the demos both games are good this year….last year 2k blew live away i dont even know why they made live 09 it was so bad…but this year both games are great….but u just gave a biased review because your a 2k fan…

Arse-bot to the rescue, haha, Ill agree my review was biased.. One game played really well, and the other played really poorly. So I picked the quality game to give a good score to. I’m probably one of the biggest EA fan boys alive, and it made me sad to dislike Live 10, (EA owns, and or publishes half of the developer that make my favorite titles). and in response to the demo comment, I wish I was playing a demo, but sadly it was two full versions of the game.

NBA 2K10 overall score should be 8.25. I can’t wait to get my 2k10 from amazon. I’ve played Live for numerous before switching to 2K last year for the better graphics and realism in controls.

honestly, i’m disagreeing with the review. why? because i played 2k10 all day yesterday and it is a attempt at overcoming 2k9′s hype. the defense is worse than last year, shooting techniques are worse. Live 10 is a biggggg improvement from Live 09. and i’m going to have to say Live 10 this year.

Every one is favoring 2k10 to be the best since obviously it was the best last year by far, but i have played both games and nbalive 10 is wayyyy funner to play than 2k10 , 2k10 is realistic as can be and sometimes thats just not fun in this case , but nbalive gives a arcade version that is fun and easy to pick up and play plus the graphics arent that bad com on !!

Man I have been a NBA 2k fan since day one. But I can say that this year it is a matter of what you want to buy. Both games have good graphics and similar gameplay. They both have the same stuff. Who gives a sh*t, put both of dem sh*ts down and get a real man’s game Call of Duty Modern Warfare II.
I bought nba 2k10 and played it for a hour and I think it is exactly the same as 2k9 with graphics a tad better the presentation with them talking about there upcoming schedule during the game. Then I rented live 2010 and that game had drasically improved. The game and graphics are like 2k and ea in one game. I am planing on trasing in 2k10 for live!!!!

I usually play LIVE exclusively and have to admit, OVERALL, 2K10 has a higher fun factor this year. Can’t believe there is no tip-dunks! Get with it EA! It’s NOT in the game.

I rented both games today to compare them and it took me about 15 minutes to decide to take 2K10 back and keep Live 2010….while i do agree that 2K10 is more realistic in SOME ways, it is not nearly as fun as NBA live…. if you want to be so realistic then get off your ass and go play real basketball….and thats what i expect from a game…FUN. And the graphics are not better in 2k10 either…..live is obviously a prettier game. And the biggest bonus for me was the better music….like always EA games picks great music that really makes the game more exciting.

This game sucks. if you want to spend hours upon hours in my player mode making your player extremely awesome. 99 rating. shooting 80% fg and avg a triple double with 45 points just to see your team go 25-36 because the rest of your team decides to shoot 20% tops and take the most retarded shots possible. lots of turnovers and my favorite. the point gaurd bringing the ball down then turningg around and getting a backcourt violation(happens atleast twice a game) then get this game!
I always played live since 03, this year 2010 I decided to give 2k10 a try. I like it but its been giving me a lot of problems all the glitch and freezes up during the games. For example when I call time out sometimes I stare at the coach for 10 minutes till I realize that it froze. Specially when I play “my player” mode on 2k10 I had to start the season twice cause of the game won’t advance to the next season. Can somebody help me with that???? So now I’m think about getting nba live 2010, neva fails me plus I kick major A$$ on any of them. GO CAVS!!!!!

Agreed with this post completely. If you are an avid NBA player, then remember back to the last NBA game for the original xbox was NBA Live 06. Now this was the same year they came out with the 360, so there are two versions of NBA Live 06, one for 360, and one for regular xbox. Since they came out with 360, they have improved on graphics, but the gameplay has taken a downward slope. Seems like they are trying WAY to hard to make these games. NBA 10 has so many ridiculous flaws i hate this game with a passion(but i still play it). For example, alley oops suck, defending inbound plays is worthless, controls feel laggy and unresponsive, gameplay slows when attemting a pass to a player making a run or alley oop, and there is little to no difference in most of the players handling. For example, i was playing yesterday and attempted an alley oop(knowing this was a mistake), my pass was incomplete, and my ball hit the backboard and went IN the net. Yes IN the RIM, the CIRCLE, THE BASKET. IT WENT IN(confirmed in replay). Because NBA 10 SUCKS, the game didnt even pick up on this, and just continued gameplay as if it were a rebound. This may be an NBA 10 bashing, but with 15+ years of playing basketball games, this game really pissed me off. I want to go back to NBA JAM. That game had integrity.

What it really comes down to is if you want realism or an arcade style nba game. Personally 2k10 is only 40 bucks, live is 59.99 i think 2k is a better value all around. Maybe hit up a gamestop and grab a used copy? that way you have 7 days to return either if you hate em.

Anyone who thinks NBA Live10 is better than 2k10 must truly like arcade games. 2k10 looks real plays real and from 2k09 is a far superior game. Live is fun if thats all your looking for. But if your truly looking to get nba competitive 2k10 is right now as real as it gets.2k10 has far better game play than live better graphics just a better head to head game.

i have nba live it is way better than nba 2k10. nba live the same exact shootin style as players in real life.like lebron’s,kobe’s,and ray allen’s shooting styles are in the game. they shoot the same exact way ther shoot in real life.lebron also dunks the way he dunks in real life. and not to mention you can alter the players playing time at season mode. also season mode it fuckin awsome. the beginning of the game is awsome two with all kinds of all-stars shooting around. you can even change the atmosphere of the games from finals the season to playoffs. so there you have to all you nba 2k10 fans u might want to consider nba live 10 instead.

I have only played live so i cant agree or disagree with the review on 2k10 …..however i do agree completely with the review on live it is very choppy and the controls are very non responsive in my opinion i should have just saved my money and bought 2k instead buying live was a huge waste of money in my opinion
Dis review is biased,Live I think has better gameplay,but 2k features are what make it better,my player mode is amzing, but as far as playing a regular game on 2k10, live has it won.

Anybody who says 2k10 is superior to LIVE is fucking stupid. I couldnt put it in more complex terms that that. Its that simple.
2k10 has the worst controls in any game ive played! Basing the quality of a game based on graphics is some real nerdy propaganda. I prefer playing a full game without something as simple as dribbling to the left being a fucking backcourt violation or out of bounds or a messed up play (2k10 effectively does this for you).
Dont waste money on 2k10.
