You exercise censorship every day when you choose to watch one show over another – or telling your kids they can’t watch it. I exercise it several times a day by changing the station whenever I hear Pearl Jam or Nirvana.

Too many people think that just because they are offended by media means the media shouldn’t exist. On some level I can agree, child pornography comes to mind. But if they used my scale of offense cable news wouldn’t exist.

In my eyes the developer has done the right thing. Make the game you want, in the same way I would tell an artist to paint a picture or a director to make a movie the way they want, then recognize you may make some people uncomfortable. In this case, they made the scene skippable (though could be an entire game for me and I’d love it). An artist can put a warning up at their show, or put possibly offensive content in a separate section (anyone see the babies at the Body Worlds exhibit?). A director can get an NC17 rating, or even exclude the scene from the theatrical release knowing they’ll still make a killing on DVD/BD sales.
