Nintendo Wii WiiWare/Virtual Console Releases 9/8

Monday, September 8th, 2008

This Week there were 3 games released 1 WiiWare and 2 Virtual Console.

WiiWare

Groovin’ Blocks (Empty Clip Studios, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): A music-based game like no other, Groovin’ Blocks
adds innovative musical game play to an addictive action/puzzle game
foundation. Play to the rhythm of the music to increase your score, and
try to hit “Superbeats” to double your multiplier.
Go for the high
score in each of the 27 stages as you collect stars to unlock 15 levels
of power-ups. Groovin’ Blocks features three skill levels, from

the accessible Casual to the fiendish Hard mode. Play with your friends
in co-op mode or against them head-to-head. Head-to-head brings it up a
notch as the power-ups now become attacks on your opponent. Play
head-to-head with people of all skill levels using a golf-style
handicapping system.

You can see a little gameplay here. The game seems to be very similar to Tetris or Wario Woods and games along those lines;  If you like puzzle games like that I am sure you would like this game.  As for me I don’t care for these games too much they tend to get annoying really quickly.

Virtual Console

Final Solider
(TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone—Mild Fantasy Violence,
700 Wii Points): A vertically scrolling shooter from the well-known Soldier series.
In the 23rd century, invaders from the future suddenly attack Earth.
Controlling a fighter created by the world’s scientists, you rise to
meet the enemy. Collect power-up units, such as LASER, E-BEAM, FIRE and
MISSILE, and then equip them in Options to launch a variety of attacks.
For each of these weapons, you can freely select from three different
types in SET-UP. Anticipate enemies’ strikes and deftly switch between
weapons to defeat the invaders. In addition to NORMAL GAME, there are
also 2 MINUTE GAME and 5 MINUTE GAME score-attack modes. The most
perfect blend and balance of any game in the series, Final Soldier is a title you don’t want to miss.

Final Solider looks really cool.  the game seems to be a combination of Gradius and 1942.  If you like vertically scrolling shooters than this game will be awesome for you.  If i could work out obtaining the money for this game I would get it.  This is a game you are going to need some patients for more than likely highly frequint deaths.  You can see some game play here.

Cho Aniki
(TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone and Older—Mild
Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, 900 Wii Points): The odd
world in this shooter made for quite the conversation piece in its day.
Players control either Idaten or Benten, celestial warriors out to
bring
an end to the tyrannical rule of the emperor of Planet Builder,
who holds muscular prowess to be the supreme virtue of the universe.

Aided by able-bodied muscle-head options Adon and Samson, they must
battle to defeat the emperor’s army across five stages. Use the buttons
to fire away and lay into the Builder forces. Power up your character
and options with protein from defeated enemies to have them “bulk up”
with a yell, and take their macho battle to the next level.

Another Shooter that came out today it’s defenitly an interesting looking game you seem to be some form of god and your shooting things like you would on Gradius with an upgrade system that is also similar to Gradious.  I would say it is worth a try but Nintendo still hasn’t done any form of “demo” system for any of there console games.  Yet again if you like shooters then you will more than likely appreciate this game.  Here is a game play video for the game.

At the end of the day it seems that shooters was the keyword.  I have fun with shooters as much as the next guy but it would seem having at least one other type of game on the Virtual Console releases would have been a better choice for Nintendo.

Comic Pulls 9/3

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008
  • Amazing Spider-Man #570 Anti-Venom? Eddie Brock? Really?
  • Secret Invasion Front Line #3 I’m not usually one to push tie-ins to a big crossover. But this one is worth a look.
  • Venom Dark Origin #2 For those curious if Brock has always been a d-bag.
  • Boys #22 Another 32 pages of fucked up stuff.
  • Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane #2 So good I’m almost not ashamed to admit to reading it.

Will everyone please just stop trying to figure out who is going to be the next villain in the third Batman movie? The Dark Knight came out a month ago, blowing all of our minds and now everyone is going “Hey! Johnny Depp should play The Riddler! Oh! And! And! Angelina Jolie! She’d make an amazing Catwoman!” Well, I have four words for all of you people out there: Shut the fuck up.

After the shitfest that was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, plus his craptacular appearance as the pederastic Willy Wonka in Tim Burton’s remake farce that was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory do we really need to see him run around in a green suit with question marks scrawled all over it? No, not really; let that bastard run around imitating Keith Richards somewhere else.

And Angelina Jolie would not make a good Catwoman. Every time there’s a fucking comic book movie coming out some asshole has to spout out “hey, why not Angelina Jolie?” First it was Ava Lord in the next Sin City movie, then it was Fox in Wanted, then a Tomb Raider III, blah, blah, fucking blah. I can tell you why nerds get such a hard-on for her in comic roles; they want to see her in more skintight outfits. Well, to all those losers out there, just rent Taking Lives, it’s got all the obligatory Angelina Jolie nudity you can shake your stick at, and yes, that was a euphemism. Maybe Angelina Jolie could act once, she did do a great job at playing a skanky sociopath in Girl Interrupted and managed to pull off the whole Gia thing for that made for TV movie… Wait, it wasn’t TV - it was HBO. Let Mrs. Brad Pitt skank her way through a different film, not a Batman one.

It’s been a month people, why don’t we just relish the amazing performances by Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger who really disappeared into their roles as Harvey Dent/Two-Face and The Joker? And then, we can let Christopher Nolan take a breather, take a step back from the franchise and film something non-Batman related and then go into the next sequel with a clean mind and fresh ideas. None of this Riddler and Catwoman bullshit.

In other news apparently George Lucas can’t seem to walk away from the well. If the lackluster ratings and box office bomb that is the animated Clone Wars wasn’t enough to pulverize the respect you had for his hot and cold space opera you’ve got another thing coming… Star Wars 3-D; that’s right folks. Señor Jorge Lucas has come up with another way to ruin your original Star Wars experience! Not only now can we see Guido shoot at Han first with bad editing, we can see it in 3-D! Let’s just call a spade a spade and have him not release Star Wars in 3-D, watch the movies on DVD, and then mail him a check for what it would cost for theater admission. It’s a win/win situation; we don’t have to leave our homes, we can watch Star Wars without even more newly added crap, and he gets paid. That’s really what it’s all about now to him anyway: $$$. Why else would we have to suffer through an animated movie, Ewok victory songs? Christmas specials, and now, an upcoming 3-D clusterfuck?

The future of comic book and sci-fi movies looks bright.

Jhonen Vasquez Working on Stuff

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

When I was at the Comic Con I had the pleasure of bumping into everyone’s favorite Jhonen Vasquez. When asked “so, what do you have in the works?” he responded “oh, well, I’m working on a graphic novel… about robots… and stuff.”I was more than enthused. I’m a robot, most of the other writers are robots, or are pretending to be, and we love stories about robots. So, what will the “stuff” be? Filler Bunnies, homicidal maniacs and aborted fetuses? Sure, why not; but what will the other things be? Peanut butter and jelly sandwich pornography, Mickey Rourke, obnoxious goth posers, etcetera, etcetera. One can only hope that this project will see the light of day if our dear Jhonen V can pry himself away from WoW, rectally eating puppies and engaging in acts of necrophilia.Feel free to check out Jhonen Vasquez’s website http://www.questionsleep.com.Become tainted by his perverse thoughts on his Live Journal. And feel free to stalk him on his Twitter! He loves his stalkers!

I Really, REALLY Hated this Movie…

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

But the nice folks at JoBlo.com were kind enough to post some scenes from it…

This really took me back to my childhood. I remember being so excited about a Super Mario Bros. movie, and then in an instant having my dreams crushed, shattered, lit on fire, then pissed on. I still don’t think I have completely recovered….

Batman Graphic Novel Countdown 3 and Counting

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Today, The Dark Knight Strikes Again.

Whereas I think this is a good book, I don’t like it nearly as much as the original. This one has a cool story and is fun, but it clearly feel’s rushed in comparison. I like this book because it seems like no one else in the world gets how cool Batman is besides me and Frank Miller, I can’t get over how cool it is when he tells Kryponian’s what to do. Another thing that I like about this book is just the look at the future, where the government has taken so much control people are just slaves. I think that this story also shows how good Frank Miller is at pacing a story, even when it seems like he is in a rush. There really isn’t that much to say about it, it is fun, but not great.

Same Shit, Different Diaper : the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Trailer

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

To me, this pairing always seemed like Pamela Anderson & Tommy Lee, two wrongs that as impossible as it may seem, become something south of Limp Bizkit.

It’s kind of like those booger and turd jelly beans of Harry Potter fame, except that no one is really expected to swallow those.

I truly wonder if this title didn’t stem from a drunken bet or a dare that someone took way too seriously.

This is like Van Halen re-uniting with Sammy Haagar, except this time Sammy has replaced Eddie and that ass hole from Fall Out Boy has replaced Sammy.

This isn’t beating a dead horse, this is raising Hitler from the dead to he can initiate unholy congress with Joan Rivers… Sure it may be good for a cheap laugh but think of the possible consequences.

Click the picture.  Actually, don’t, because it’s really stupid…

Did they just figure that since Marvel and Capcom went together like milk and cookies, nobody would notice that Mortal Kombat and DC  go together like a saucer full of poo and a mug of hot pee?

Seriously folks, we live in a society here…

Watch the trailer here and tell me if I’m wrong.

Batman Graphic Novel Countdown 5 and Counting

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

The graphic novel for today is “Dark Victory” which is a sequel to “The Long Halloween” which was reviewed earlier last week. This one is also written by Jeph Loeb, with art by Tim Sale.

I think I like the story in The Long Halloween better, but the art work in Dark Victory is definitely up scale, there seem to be many more two page spreads of Batman kicking ass out of the shadows.

At one point Joker is actually going around doing mob hits, while doing this he makes his way to a giant womans house whom is in a wheelchair, he then proceeds to push her down stairs. This book is really good.

It has essentially the same premise as it’s predecessor Batman trying to track down a serial killer, this one kinda has a cooler M.O., they hang cops and leave hang man clues pinned to there dead bodies. The first murder is police chief O’Hara, whom was the chief from the television show. (It’s nice to see characters from the television show hanged.) There are some cool side story’s in this which include Dick Grayson becoming the first Robin, and M.O. killers not wanting to be forgotten. This is a good book, and I am a better robot for reading it.
