Paul Rudd pimps Super Nintendo in 1991 commercial

You know how I know you’re gay?  You did a commercial for Pilotwings and F-Zero.

Paul Rudd’s breakthrough role came in 1995’s Clueless.  But before then, before Neil Labute’s The Shape of Things, and before becoming my favorite member of the Judd Apatow Frat Pack, he was in a commercial for Super Nintendo. (one I totally remember, by the way)

To be fair, I think almost everyone had that haircut at some point in the early 90’s.  And to be even more fair, despite the fact that this ad has not aged well, Super Nintendo kicked ass.  The Super Star Wars series alone, Super Metroid, StarFox, and Zelda: A Link to the Past– all of these rank among my favorite games ever. Indeed, Super Empire Strikes Back might be my favorite console game of all time.

Thank you Paul Rudd.  Thanks for being a trendsetter.  And getting a better haircut.

And thanks to New York Magazine for digging this up.  They also have a video of him as a DJ at a bat mitzvah, sporting the same hair.

What if they were still making games like Super Star Wars for modern movies?
