‘X-Files’ Gets a Premiere Date!

You guys – did we time travel? Do I need a pinching? Because I feel like I’m back in high school: a Clinton is running for office, Smashing Pumpkins and Marilyn Manson are touring together, Suge killed a dude, and “X-Files” is back on Fox.

The six episode series will premiere in a two night event beginning on January 24th, 2016 at 10pm ET after the NFC Championship Game, and will continue on Monday the 25th at 8pm. The show will continue its arc in the Monday at 8pm time slot. And since Fox has issued a release stating the network will be abandoning reruns this season, my guess is that “X-Files” will be the interim entertainment during a “Gotham” hiatus.

The official Fox press release gives no clues as to the plot or content of the upcoming reunion. But I feel like I can safely guess the hopes and dreams of every fan out there. For every person who’s patiently watched their X-Files DVD sets from beginning to end 27 times (no? just me?), who’s poured over every fic from the G rated continuations of classic X-Files mythology to the debaucherous Mulder/Krychek slash (no? just me again?)… I know what you want, what you need, friends.

Aliens. We want to know about the aliens. Please. Especially if this is a one time deal, please in the name of my beloved Krychek tells us about the aliens and Samantha and also let Mulder and Scully smooch a little.

I’m not going to go off and name all the brilliant episodes that didn’t deal with the alien theme, because it would be like Bubba listing all the things you can do with shrimp. There were without a doubt many mind blowing episodes about ghosts, and vampires, and disfigured dudes, and more disfigured dudes that live with their mom, and see this is why I’m not going to list them. It would be boring and redundant because we all know how awesome they were. But if my guess is correct, and this is all the new content I’ll ever see, I just want a resolution. And also, I mean, come on. Mulder and Scully are like Han and Leia – they’re just meant to be. There should be a little smooching.

Truth be told, as long as the new series holds up to the creative standards of old, I won’t mind if there are no alien resolutions. I’m just so excited this is actually happening. Ech, my fandoms have made me cry a few tears of joy this year. Is that lame? Don’t answer that, it’s rhetorical.

What do you hope to see in these highly anticipated six episodes? What do you hope the series leaves in the past? Leave your thoughts in the comments below, and make sure to check back here at the BSR – we’ll keep you posted on “X-Files” news as soon as we hear it!
